My sister Ruth got a speeding ticket

When Ruth heard the news she did no more but to get in her car and get to me as quickly as possible - especially as I had a 50/50 chance of survival - she lives South of Reading so it is a good 2 to 3 hour trip - inevitability but surprisingly she got a speeding ticket - the surprise was that she only got the one - upon returning home I started on the challenge to get the ticket rescinded and clean her license- I am please to report that after quite a few letters backwards and forwards and finally being able to prove she was my sister - I succeeded and Ruth was very pleased with the outcome

Funny events

Whilst a dramatic change of life there were many occurrences that a brought a smile to my face - like the time as I was being pushed along I said hello to somebody- and my companion said who was that - I don’t know they were looking down and I was looking up and we made eye contact...

Trying to cross a road...

When I was being taken out in my wheel chair we came to a dropped down curb - we were just about to cross when a car stopped directly in our way - he could not go any further so could have easily stopped to let us pass - obviously his journey was far more important than mine...

Who did that...?

Sheila was allowed to drive my Council lease car whist I was incapacitated which helped us out no end - after about 15 months after my accident I managed to start driving - I had a 2 hour driving lesson just to see if I still wanted to drive and indeed if I could do an emergency stop - all went well until I went past the scenes - shortly after this I was asked to turn left and veered over the other side of the road and the driving instructor had to take control - what on earth happened there she asked - when I told her she said I should have told her and we would not have come that way - however I am very pleased that we did as now I can pass this point with no upset whatsoever- back to the story as I got back to the car I noticed a dent in the tailgate and thought someone had reversed into it - when I phoned Sheila she said the miserable so and so’s not quite as polite as that but you get my drift - it was not until several months later that she admitted that she had done it - she stopped in front of a pub - got my wheelchair out and then went and parked the car and hit a protrusion and didn’t want to tell me

A long weekend - eventually

I had - thankfully- never been in this sort of situation before and we and some friends wanted to go to a well known holiday camp in Skegness. I spent a good half hour on the phone discussing my problems - that I was wheel chair bound - and how it would work - eventually all my fears were allayed and we set off

upon arrival the keys were waiting for us and the receptionist gave us  full directions

of we set and can you imaging my surprise - the apartment was on the first floor - back we go to reception and they could not have been more sorry - they gave us some more keys and reassured us - absolutely - so off we went again - I suppose this was on the ground floor but it was on stilts and there were 2 steps up to a metal landing which served an external staircase and another step into our apartment - back to reception - again

So sorry but we did not give it a thought we were told by reception once again they gave us some more keys

when we got to a very nice chalet we thought it had all been worth it - we just got our bags in and I then found a further problem - the only way I could use the facilities was to have the door - which opened outwards - wide open across the hall way with my wheelchair preventing it closing - sitting on the bath and sliding to the toilet whist all the time the others would have had to stay in the living room - listening - we were not happy. And by now we had been on site for about 1.5 hours - one last chance we thought - the staff were not very happy but after a hurried conversation between them they eventually upgraded us to Silver and I am please to say we had a very pleasant weekend - we were exhausted but glad we had it sorted
